Monkey Baby Shower Ideas

!±8± Monkey Baby Shower Ideas

Your guests will go ape when you plan a fun monkey baby shower. Here are some ideas for food, drinks, and decorations:

Food:

While you can serve just about anything for the main and side dishes, allow bananas to be part of the desert plan. Banana cream pie, banana bread, and frozen, sliced bananas with a toothpick, are just a few choices. Most baby showers include some form of cake. Here is an easy way to give everyone a monkey treat.

Monkey Cupcakes:

Bake chocolate cupcakes and ice them with chocolate frosting. Place one standard size vanilla wafer cookie on the bottom to be used as a nose and mouth. Use gel frosting to draw two dots for the nose and a smile underneath for the mouth. Take two mini cookies and put them on the sides for ears. You can use any of the Nabisco 100 calorie packs or Keebler mini cookies. Add eyes using Honey Nut Cheerios, M&Ms or any soft round sweet candy or cereal.

Tropical Drinks:

The website hawaiiforvisitors.com has a complete recipe guide for many tropical drinks, mostly alcoholic. Non-alcoholic punches are also tasty and simple to make. Just combine equal parts: fruit juice, fruit punch, and a citrus carbonated pop, like Sprite or 7up. Add strawberry or orange sherbet just before serving. Using pineapple juice adds an extra taste of the tropics.

Decorations:

Think greenery like plants and trees. Anything that will give your location a jungle atmosphere is ideal, like green tableware and tablecloths. If you can get your hands on a couple of coconuts, they would great table decorations. There is a small game called "Barrel of Monkeys" where the object is to hook the arms of the monkeys together. Buy one of these games and spread the monkeys out on your table, so your guests can play.

Monkeys always seem to be having fun, so be sure to enjoy this delightful theme shower.

Hiking Foods - Tips to Have Great Fun on the Trail

!±8± Hiking Foods - Tips to Have Great Fun on the Trail

Are you planning for hiking? Or are you preparing for hiking?

Second question is very important for hikers. Most of the people start their hiking without proper planning. However, here planning means food preparation. Hiking is very energy-consuming, if you do not have enough nutrition during hiking then you will suffer from tiredness, dizziness, nausea, malaise, and cramps.

If you want to enjoy your hiking maintaining good health, you need to bring some foods with you. These are:

Gorp or trail mix:

This is very important food items that can be a great source of energy during hike. This is also very delicious food to eat. Train mix may contain M&M, mini marshmallows, chocolate chips, potato chips, banana chips, cheerios, chex cereal, raisins, peanuts, cashews, and dried coconut. You can buy these foods from any super shop. Gorp is the best choice during travel on train.

Energy bar:

You may like power bars, Cliff Bars, Luna, Molex or any other brand; these are very good source of energy on the trail. This food item works very well during workouts or exercise. However, energy bars are bit expansive, price range from .25 to .50 each, that is why it is better to buy in bulk.

Granola:

This is available in a variety of flavors, colors and nutritional value ranging from honey, and nut to more foreign combination like blueberry or cherry. Fat and carbohydrates are main components of Granola. This is an excellent food for hikers on the trail.

Dried food:

Dried foods are not easily perishable and contain more calorie per ounce of food. Most common dried foods are Raisins, dried apricots, dried apples, dried pineapple, and dried banana slices. You can also use this food with peanut, butter or cheese.

There are some other foods that you can bring with you on the trail. These are tuna with crackers, hard cheese and crackers, peanut butters, candy bars, fresh fruit, and beef jerky.

Remember to bring water. This the most important drink that you must bring with you during hiking, because water stress is a big problem on the trail.

Have a great fun on your trail. Good luck!!!

Food - Cereals

!±8± Food - Cereals

They say that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Well, if that's true, some of these breakfast cereal manufacturers need to get on the stick, at least according to most nutritionists. We'll take a look at some of what's available to a typical family.

The sad truth is, most breakfast cereals are pretty much empty calories, at least the ones you buy in a box. Oh, there are exceptions but you really have to look for them as the most common breakfast cereals are pretty much marketed for children. To see how true this is, one only needs to walk down the cereal aisle in your local supermarket and take a look at some of the more popular titles.

If you've been watching TV since the 1960s you have certainly heard Tony The Tiger scream, "They're Great!" He is of course talking about Kellogg's Sugar Frosted Flakes. This is one cereal that could send a child into a sugar stroke without even blinking an eye. It's no wonder kids are hyper in school all day. And of course the list of these kids cereals goes on forever with titles like "Sugar Pops", "Sugar Smacks", "Corn Pops", "Count Chocula", "Frankenberry", "Booberry", "Cocoa Pebbles", "Captain Crunch", "Cheerios", "Honey Nut Cheerios", "Trix", "Lucky Charms" and on and on and on. It's like an army invasion just checking out each box, one with more sugar than the other.

Fortunately, there are some decent cereals out there. For the health nut there are some fairly nutritious titles like "Golean", "Golean Crunch", "Wheaties", "Cream Of Wheat", "Farina" and other similar types. These cereals don't have nearly as much sugar as the kid tested variety and many of them are even high in fiber like Kashi's Golean and Golean Crunch which have ten and eight grams of fiber respectively. They still have a small amount of sugar but in comparison to the kid cereals, they're much better.

Of course there are your hot and cold cereals. Most of the ones mentioned above are your out of the box, throw on a little milk and some fruit cold variety. But on a cold winter day there is nothing like a nice hot bowl of cream of wheat or farina. If you want something really fast there is the whole Quaker Oats line of oatmeal cereals. All of these come with a different kind of flavoring added like maple brown sugar, apples, peaches and cream and others. These are easy to make. Just open the package, throw it in a cup or bowl, add some water and pop it in the microwave. In about one minute you've got yourself a hot cup of oatmeal. The packages are small and don't really make a lot so if you have a big appetite you may want to make a couple of these.

Eventually, breakfast cereal manufacturers are going to realize that breakfast really is the most important meal of the day and they're going to start making cereals that you won't mind your kid eating first thing in the morning.

Flu Treatment For Kids: Coconut Water Shaved Ice

!±8± Flu Treatment For Kids: Coconut Water Shaved Ice

Coconut water shaved ice is a great flu treatment for kids because it helps replace lost electrolytes that are drained from your child's body when they're fighting the flu or any other sickness. The flu is worst for younger kids because they have so little life experience. They don't know what sick is. One day they're running around the playground with their friends, the next, boom! They're sick. When you're a little kid, having the flu for the first of second time, is one of the worst things you will experience in your young life. Your body aches, you have a hot fever, but cold sweats, you can't eat or drink and when you do, you throw up. Then, you throw up some more, and you're like, "what is going on? This sucks!!! Waaaahhhhh, make it better mommmyyy!!!"

Keeping food and beverages down without throwing them up when you have the flu is hard for younger kids because of the viral effects, the flu has on their sensitive little stomachs. When holding down water becomes a chore on your little ones body, chances are, they aren't getting enough food or water to stay properly hydrated and fight the flu. When I was a kid, my mom used to give me ice chips or popsicles so I could rehydrate slowly, without upsetting my stomach. It gave me the little bit of the moisture that my body needed to stay hydrated, without making me throw-up. However, her method could have been more effective. (I love you mom, you're the best!!!) In her defense, the benefits of coconut water weren't that highly circulated 25 years ago, when I was a little whipper snapper. Like mentioned above, when your body looses electrolytes through fighting the flu, your body is going to dehydrate, especially if you can't hold down food or liquids. When you're dehydrated, your body doesn't operate at full capacity, hence, your child's body will not be fighting the flu at maximum strength.

Coconut water is 100% all natural and has the same electrolyte balance as our blood. In the South Pacific Islands during World War II, coconut water was used by both sides of the war and intravenously injected into the veins of injured and dehydrated soldiers when military doctors on the field were out of blood plasma. Coconut water is called the "fluid of life for a reason," it has literally saved lives. Not only that, but it tastes good and one 11.2 ounce serving, has more potassium than two and a half bananas. The flavor reminds me of the milk in the bottom of my cereal bowl when I eat Honey Nut Cheerios, only not as sweet, with a much thinner texture than milk. Some of the additional health benefits of coconut water that make it a great flu treatment for kids are:

It helps calm the stomach. It helps rehydrate your body helping eliminate cramping, aching, dizziness and headaches. It helps detoxify your system, helping flush the sickness and toxins out of your child's body. It helps strengthen immunity, helping prevent the flu, other sickness and disease. It's 100% all natural.

Hopefully your sick child can hold down food and beverages, so he/she can take advantage of drinking coconut water to help their bodies fight the flu. If not, coconut water shaved ice is a great flu treatment for kids because it melts slowly, slowly making its way down into their stomach, helping them rehydrate, while preventing any stomach discomfort. It's also a much more effective alternative than ice chips because of the added electrolyte boost and overall health benefits that coconut water provides.
